UTRGV Clarinets
Clarinet Studies at UTRGV
During the past several years, the Clarinet Program at UTRGV has undergone tremendous growth and the students presently in the studio demonstrate the highest level of ability and potential that we have ever had. We are more active than ever and invite you take a closer look at what the UTRGV Clarinet Studio has to offer!
Clarinet Instruction
As a clarinet major at UTRGV you will receive a weekly applied lesson tailored to meet your individual needs so that you can achieve your fullest potential as a clarinetist and musician. In addition to the weekly applied lesson, the clarinet studio holds a weekly studio class and a weekly technique class. In the studio class, students are given the opportunity to perform for each other and work together to help each other improve their performance. This also helps students develop critical listening skills and fosters effective communication and teaching skills that are essential to students’ educator training. The studio class also covers topics such as reed adjustment, various styles of clarinet playing, important historical and contemporary figures and trends in the clarinet world and more. The weekly technique class allows the students to develop their technical facility in a supportive and cooperative setting, motivating and challenging each other to achieve specific goals. These additional classes supplement the regular applied lesson curriculum and provide students a comprehensive clarinet education.
Enhancing Your Education
UTRGV Clarinet Students have opportunities that go beyond the lesson studio. We are out in the community, honing our teaching skills by working with local middle school and high school students. We learn from the top clarinetists in the world in guest artist master classes and recitals. We perform throughout the local community, the state and the country.
